Japan to accept Indonesian nurses, hotel trainees under economic pact
Tokyo (ANTARA News) — Japan will accept nurses, care workers and hotel trainees from Indonesia under a bilateral economic partnership agreement in the final stages of talks, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported, without citing sources.
The agreement is expected to be finalized when Prime Minister Shinzo Abe meets with Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in Tokyo at the end of this month, with a goal of having the pact take effect next year, the business daily was quoted by XFN-Asia as saying.
Indonesia will be the second nation, following the Philippines, to be allowed to dispatch workers to Japan under an economic partnership agreement, it said.
Under the pact, Indonesia will abolish tariffs on more than 90 pct of products from Japan, the report said.
For instance, it now charges tariffs of 65-80 pct on automobiles from Japan, but tariffs on models with engines exceeding 3 liters will be abandoned by 2012 and those on models of 3 liters or less will be abolished by 2016, it said.
Japan will drop tariffs on such industrial products as textiles and such marine and farm products as shrimp and tropical fruits, but will keep those on rice and plywood, according to the report.
