Jordan, Belgium to discuss trade ties

(MENAFN - Jordan Times) A Belgian trade delegation arrived in Amman on Saturday to look into the possibility of economic cooperation between the two countries.

The visiting delegation comprises representatives of 30 Belgian companies and several economists and businessmen from Brussels and Antwerp.

The visit, organised in collaboration with the Belgian Export Promotion Agencies, is the first visit since 2004 and the largest Belgian trade delegation ever to visit Jordan.

Over 300 individual business contacts with Jordanian companies have already been scheduled for the participating Belgian companies and a delegation from the Antwerp Chamber of Commerce will also visit Aqaba to build ties between the two port cities.

Meetings for the official delegation are scheduled with Industry and Trade Minister Amer Hadidi and Foreign Affairs Minister Salah Bashir as well as representatives of the Jordan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, several authorities in Amman and Aqaba in addition to business associations.

It is also expected that during this visit, until October 13, the text of a bilateral investment treaty will be initialled by Maen Nsour, chief executive officer of Jordan Investment Board, and the Belgian ambassador in Jordan, Jo Indekeu.

Bilateral trade between both countries last year exceeded JD120 million.
Jordanian exports to Belgium mainly consist of chemical products and textiles while Belgium exports machinery, chemicals, transport equipment and diamonds to Jordan.
