Jordan, Turkey conclude fourth round of talks on free trade agreement

Amman, July 19 (Petra) — Jordan and Turkey on Wednesday concluded the fourth round of talks on free trade agreement. The two countries agreed on most of the provisions contained in the draft agreement including those related to standardization, health, taxes , emerging industries, competitiveness and intellectual property, government procurements, trade development, and the exchange of expertise in areas of agriculture, industry, services and transport.

The talks were chaired by Industry and Trade Ministry Secretary General Muntaser al Oqlah and Turkish of Deputy Foreign Trade Minister.

The fourth round followed previous talks on a free trade agreement aimed to lay down the bases for developing economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries Oqlah said.

An agreement was not reached on issues related customs disintegration, lists of goods, bilateral rules of origin as well as rules related to bilateral protection measures. These issues need further discussion upon request from the Jordanian side, Oqlah added.

The volume of trade balance between the two countries during the first three months of this year stood at US$58 m. of which 41.3 m. were Jordanian imports.
