Mass rally against EU-FTA held

IMPHAL, March 18: A mass rally cum public meeting protesting against the proposed India- EU FTA was held today at Kumbi in Bishnupur district, said a release of United Community Development Platform, Moirang.
The protest was jointly organized by United Community Development Platform (UCDP), Moirang, Social Action Committee (SAC) Borayangbi; Youths Organization for Upliftment of Rural and Youths (YOURS) Kumbi and Terakha Youth Club, Kumbi, it said.
More than 500 people from nearby villages of Kumbi, Borayangbi, Moirang Mantak, Sagang and Moirang Bazaar took part in the rally which was flagged off and concluded at Kumbi Nagar Panchayat after passing through different villages, it further said.
The protestors displayed placards reading “No to lndia-EU FTA,” “FTA: Don`t Trade Away Our Human Rights” “Indigenous People have the Rights over Land and Resources”, “Obtain Free, Prior & informed Consent”, “Revoke MoU on the Proposed Tipaimukh Dam” “Cancel the License of Petroleum Exploration in Manipur` “Go Back NHPC” “Stop Exploitation of Loktak Lake” “Save Loktak Lake” “Respect the Rights of fisher folks” “Respect the Rights of the Indigenous People” “Our Lives are not for Sale” “Free Trade is not fair Trade” and “FTA: Don`t Trade Away our Freedom” etc.
Later, a memorandum was submitted to the Prime Minister of India, Union Commerce Minister,
Opposition Leader of Lok Sabha and UPA Chairperson with a six points demand, it added.
