Peru, EU to officially sign FTA on Wednesday

10 April 2011

Lima (ANDINA). Peru and the European Union will officially sign a bilateral Free Trade Agreement (FTA) on Wednesday, April 13, in Brussels, Belgium, according to a ministerial resolution published Sunday by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur).

The document mentions that the presentation and the public signing of the bilateral trade agreement between Peru and the European Union will take place on that day.

Furthermore, the document noted that Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism Eduardo Ferreyros will sign the before mentioned agreement and also authorizes the trip of Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade Carlos Posada to Brussels to support the minister.

Minister Ferreyros said that the FTA with the European Union opens a market of 350 million people.

Peru and the European Union finished the negotiations for a bilateral Free Trade Agreement on February 28 2010 after nine rounds of negotiations.

The European Union concentrates 20 percent of the world trade and is considered the world’s first exporter and the second importer.
