S Korea, China, Japan Trade Ministers See Investment Pact In ’10

Seoul — Trade ministers of South Korea, China and Japan are targeting to conclude an investment agreement among the three countries this year in order to promote tripartite economic and trade cooperation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said Sunday.

"The three ministers shared the view that they will make an utmost effort to reach a substantial agreement over the next several months to conclude the negotiations [for the trilateral investment pact] within this year," the ministry said in a statement.

Also, South Korean Trade Minister Kim Jong-hoon met with Chinese Commerce Minister Chen Deming and Japanese Trade Minister Masayuki Naoshima to discuss preliminary measures for a three-way free-trade agreement, while agreeing to finish a working-level joint study on the feasibility of the free-trade agreement by 2012, it said.

The three ministers came to Seoul to discuss the tripartite free-trade agreement, a regional agenda which includes G20 summits, and extensive cooperation among the three Northeast Asian countries in markets other than the three nations’, said the statement.

They also agreed to strengthen cooperation in distribution and logistics areas in a measure to promote economic and trade relations among the three countries, it said.
