Thailand Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra expects the Thai parliament to approve a Thailand-European Union Free Trade Agreement next year.
"With the FTA, it will create more incentives between the EU and Thailand to increase trading," Ms. Yingluck told reporters after a meeting with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso during his first visit to Thailand Sunday.
Bilateral trade between Thailand and the EU amounted to nearly EUR50 billion ($43 billion) in 2011, Mr. Barroso said.
In 2011, the EU was Thailand’s fourth largest trade partner after the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, Japan and China.
