Tweet-In for Colombia – Stop the free trade agreement

The Commons trade committee will hear witnesses on Bill C-2 : free trade agreements with Colombia on Tuesday, May 11 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 131 Queen Street, Ottawa, Room 853. It is expected that the Harper Conservatives will move to shut down the debate by the trade committee on the Canada-Colombia Free Trade Agreement (FTA). It has also been reported that the Liberals may support the motion.
Make Parliamentary committee history
Members of CUPE are encouraged to participate in the Tweet-In for Colombia. This would be the first Tweet-In of its kind on Parliament Hill. The time is now to stop the Conservatives and Liberals who are trying to rush through a harmful free trade agreement with Colombia without properly assessing its potential impact on human rights, workers and the environment.
CUPE members can tweet their opinions and observations of this event in real-time. Together, we can reach tens of thousands of Canadians who share our concerns. People attending the event in person will post regular updates to Twitter, including Member of Parliament names and contact information. This will prompt citizens across Canada to write to politicians, expressing their concerns about the agreement and the need for a third-party human rights assessment in Colombia.
