VN, Japan continue partnership talks

19 January 2010

TOKYO — Viet Nam and Japan have affirmed their determination to implement the Viet Nam-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (VJEPA).

In the third meeting of the Viet Nam-Japan Co-operation Committee in Tokyo yesterday, ministerial and sectoral representatives of the two countries discussed measures to strengthen bilateral co-operation in trade and investment against the backdrop of the global economic crisis.

Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem thanked the Japanese Government for another increase in official development assistance last financial year, valued at US$1.6 billion, despite economic difficulties suffered by Japan during the crisis.

Khiem suggested the Japanese Government actively participate in large infrastructure development projects in Viet Nam such as the North-South High-speed Railway and the Hoa Lac High-tech Park.

These projects were important to the relationship between the two countries and helped Viet Nam to develop sustainably in the future, he added.

Established in November 2006, the Viet Nam-Japan Co-operation Committee is a forum in which the two countries can discuss co-operative activities across all sectors. — VNS
