Iran, Algeria Mull Free-trade Pact

23 August 2010

TEHRAN, Aug 23 (Bernama) — Iran and Algeria are discussing signing a free trade agreement in the future, Mehr News Agency (MNA) reported.

The discussion took place when Iranian Commerce Minister Mehdi Ghazanfari met Algerian Ambassador to Tehran Soufiane Mimouni.

Ghazanfari said the Islamic Republic respects the African continent in its international commercial relations and in this regard Algeria, an African Muslim country, could be a gateway for Iran into North Africa.

The minister said holding specialised exhibitions, opening bank branches or establishing a joint bank and exchanging trade delegations were some of the ways Tehran and Algiers could boost business relations.

Mimouni said the current political relations between the two countries were good and expressed hope that commercial ties, which were low, would also reach a satisfactory level.
