Peru, Indonesia to start meetings towards trade agreement

Peru and Indonesia will soon begin a series of bilateral meetings to reach a free trade agreement, the Andean country’s Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Eduardo Ferreyros stated.

"I held a bilateral meeting with Indonesia’s Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita, at which we agreed to start preparatory works with the purpose of launching negotiations for a trade agreement [...]," the government official said.

In this sense, both nations’ technical teams will soon establish the terms of reference for FTA negotiations.

Japan and New Zealand

Likewise, Ferreyros met with New Zealand’s Trade Minister Todd McClay, Japan’s Ministers Nobuteru Ishihara (Economic and Fiscal Policy) and Kentaro Sonoura (Foreign Affairs).

In this regard, the cabinet member underlined Peru and the Oceania country share common interests in developing policies to invigorate trade and tourism sectors, as well as to support Peruvian indigenous communities.

As for Japan, the meeting addressed the importance of continuing to boost policies and initiatives aimed at strengthening trade integration, mainly across the Asia-Pacific region.

Gatherings took place during the Ministers Responsible for Trade (MRT) Meeting, organized by the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in Viet Nam.
