New trademark law

20 June 2006

Bahrain is set to join the Trademark Law Treaty and Regulations enacted in Geneva, Switzerland in 1994.

It will be now ratified by His Majesty King Hamad after being approved by the Shura Council yesterday and parliament last week. Meanwhile, the council has also yesterday approved the new author’s protection law, which was recently demanded by the US to have the Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The National Assembly has already approved six intellectual property laws two months ago, as Bahrain is trying to beat the clock and have the US Congress ratify the FTA before they go for their summer break on July 1.

A councillor yesterday withdrew his proposed amendments to the traffic law, after being noted that the Interior Ministry was sending its own.
