MANILA, Philippines — The third batch of Filipino caregivers who completed a pre-training course in Japanese left for Tokyo Monday to complete their training prior to becoming fully accredited caregivers in Japan.
The 60 Filipinos finished the fourmonth basic Japanese language course which is a requirement before being allowed to work in Japan.
The deployment of Filipino nurses and caregivers to Japan is part of the Japan-Philippines Economic Partnership Agreement or JPEPA which took effect in December 2008.
The group is composed of 11 men and 49 women. Upon their arrival in Japan, the group will undergo another six months of training in Japanese culture and actual Japanese conversation.
Endo Yumiko of ARC Academy, which is a Japanese language school based in Japan, said Filipinos are the preferred caregivers in Japan because of their efficiency and dedication.
Liezel Toledo, a resident of Taguig who is part of the group that left for Japan, said she is optimistic she can overcome the challenges of training in the next six month and expects to become a fully certified caregiver after the training.
