Colombians Continue Protesting Despite Dialogue in Boyaca
Bogota, Aug 28 (Prensa Latina) — While dialogue between Colombian givernment and farmers makes progress in Boyaca, Nariño y Cundinamarca, thousands of producers from another 16 departments of the country continue protesting in another day of harsh repression.
The strike has not improved and now it feels more strongly with the ringing of the pans that have not stopped ringing since last Monday when unison thousands of people gathered in the main squares of the country in support of the demonstration.
Tension in Colombia will increase with another great mobilization scheduled for tomorrow which is expected to be massive due to guilds that will join, including the Sudent Wide National Bureau and Workers’ Trade Union of Petroleum Industry (USO).
At this time thousands of peasants from towns near Bogotá as Usme, Facativa and La Calera continue at roads to demand the government a national table in which all sectors are represented.
According to the FM radio station, the Government came to the negotiating table with several specific initiatives including "the application of some provisions on the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) that are applicable to different countries, to protect the production of milk, potato , rice and other foods. "
Stopping the 11 FTA signed in the country has being one of the main requests by farmers, who ensure that its implementation has damaged the their lifes.
The first negotiation round ended almost at dawn in Boyacá with the presence of union spokesmen focused on the first point, the issue of inputs and production costs, reported newspaper El Tiempo.
