Dominicans contract Colombian scientist for DR-CAFTA training

28 August 2006

Santo Domingo.- A Colombian scientist in forensics and populations is in the country to undertake an ample training program in advanced molecular biology techniques with a view to creating human resources capable of genetically categorizing the various agriculture crops destined for export in light of the DR-CAFTA trade accord soon to be implemented.

Carlos Vergara is expected to train laboratory technicians to ensure a better contribution to the national agriculture sector’s competitiveness.

Local officials explained that the advantage of applying these technologies is that it will enable defining varieties, hybrids and types. “Besides, it will not be necessary to send our agriculture samples abroad for testing.”
