Duty-free zone firms lose contracts with Free Trade delay

29 June 2006

Santo Domingo.- Entrepreneurs from Santiago and the duty-free zones in the country are concerned about effects that would be brought about by a new postponement of the Free Trade Agreement between Central American and the United States (DR-CAFTA).

Executive director of the Dominican Association of Duty-Free Zones Jose Torres stated that postponing the DR-CAFTA would affect the investment climate currently existing in the country.

He added that, upon the country signing the FTA agreement with the United States, potential investors had shown interest in establishing business here or in Central America.
