Khusro Bakhtyar proposes early harvest programme, FTA with Myanmar

ISLAMABAD, Dec 21 (APP): Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Makhdum Khusro Bakhtyar on Thursday proposed to sign an Early Harvest Programme to be followed by a Free Trade Agreement with Myanmar. Khusro Bakhtyar made this proposal as he received the Myanmar Deputy Foreign Minister, U. Kyaw Thu here.

He welcomed the visiting Deputy Foreign Minister and stated that Pakistan highly values its relations with Myanmar.

The State Minister for Foreign Affairs thanked Myanmar for the US $ 200,000 assistance provided for the earthquake victims.

He said the two countries have always had excellent political relations and emphasized deepening of economic relations.

Cooperation in other areas was also discussed which included the telecommunication, pharmaceutical, tourism and cultural sectors.

The Myanmar Deputy Foreign Minister reciprocated by saying that Myanmar has always had good relations with Pakistan.

He highlighted the deep interest of Myanmar businessmen who in large numbers have been participating in Expo Pakistan held every year in Karachi.

He appreciated Pakistan’s relationship with the ASEAN countries and assured Myanmar’s help in further forging closer relationship between Pakistan and ASEAN.

Views were also exchanged on issues of regional and international interest of the two countries.

The Myanmar Deputy Foreign Minister is on a bilateral visit to Pakistan, alongwith a two member delegation.
