Tribunal Announces Tentative Date for CAFTA Referendum
11 May 2007
The Supreme Elections Tribunal (TSE) has set Sept. 23 as the tentative date for a nationwide popular vote on the controversial Central American Free-Trade Agreement with the United States (CAFTA), according to a statement released yesterday by the TSE.
The tribunal plans to delegate 21 electoral committees to work on the logistics of this nationwide vote, which will be the country’s first.
Tasks include setting up polling places, accrediting national observers, attending to international observers, preparing elections materials and giving the official declaration of the vote’s results, the statement said.
