LIMA, Aug 26 (BERNAMA-NNN-ANDINA) — A delegation of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) will arrive on Monday in Peru in order to evaluate the progress on the implementation of the Multi-Party Trade Agreement between the European Union (EU) and the Andean country.

This upcoming visit, which was announced by the Head of the EU’s delegation to Peru, Hans Allden, will run through Aug 27 and include meetings with representatives from the government and various sectors of the civil society.

The delegation will be headed by Jose Maria Zufiaur, President of the Section for External Relations of the EESC; and will be accompanied by Paulo Barros, head of the Latin America Follow-up Committee; Francisco Silva and Giuseppe Luliano.

Peru’s Vice-President, Marisol Espinoza and senior officials from the Ministries of Foreign Trade and Affairs will hold a high-level meeting the EESC delegation.

In addition to addressing commercial areas, the trade Agreement between EU and Peru lays down comprehensive provisions on human rights, the rule of law, and the effective implementation of international convenes related to labour rights and environmental protection.

The trade agreement between both parties came into force on March 1, 2013. The agreement opens up markets for both EU and Peruvian exporters and it is expected to bring annual savings of more than 500 million euros through reduced customs duties alone.
