Government agrees to speed up free trade talks with Australia

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Indonesia has agreed to speed up the free trade talks with Australia to have the agreement in place soon, Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu said today (20/7).

Mari said the agreement was made in meeting with her Australian counterpart Stephen Smith reported last week which include talks on other bilateral cooperation.

But refused to inform when will further talks on free trade will be held.

Before the meeting last week Industry Minister MS HIdayat reminded the goverment to take careful consideration on Indonesia’s interest in the free trade and warned against dominant Australian interest in the arrangement.

Mari said today "We must also able to take benefit, see the complementary opportunities for both countries in marketing their products in Asia."
