Nooyi calls for India-US investment treaty

NEW DELHI: PepsiCo chairman Indra Nooyi on Wednesday called for a bilateral investment treaty between India and the US to drive growth in trade relations.

Speaking at a roundtable organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry and the US-India Business Council, Nooyi said a surge in trade would lead to creation of jobs and opportunities in both countries.

“Leadership in both countries must move forwards on executing agreements, including end-use monitoring to enable and facilitate high technology collaboration,” she added.

Outlining a three-point agenda for taking India-US ties to a new level, Nooyi said inclusive growth, investment in education and health, and boosting infrastructure should drive the agenda for Indian and US industry.

“We need policies that encourage investment in rural areas, provide vocational skill-building and training that will increase the capacity of the entire system, from primary schools to colleges and post-graduate institutions,” she said.
