Peru, Venezuela likely to end trade agreement talks in July

25 May 2011

Lima (ANDINA). Negotiations on a Trade and Productive Complementation Agreement between Peru and Venezuela will conclude in July, Peruvian Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism Eduardo Ferreyros estimated.

“Last week we had the first round of talks, where issues like market access, sanitary and phyitosanitary measures, technical barriers to trade and dispute settlement, were discussed,” said the minister who added that they are making good progress.

Ferreyros told Andina news agency that this agreement will guarantee Peruvian exporters to have tariff preferences to enter the Venezuelan market.

In addition, the minister mentioned that on the first round of talks, the Peruvian and Venezuelan negotiators agreed on certain ideas.

On the other hand, he noted that at present the process of translating the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) texts into all 23 official languages spoken in the Europe Union still goes on. Once this process is completed, the next step will be singing the agreements.
