Japan and Vietnam speed up EPA talks

8 April 2008

Japan and Vietnam started the seventh negotiation round on a bilateral Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), in Tokyo on April 7.

The three-days talks will focus on areas such as goods trade, services, investment, business environment, competition and dispute settlement.

Head of the Japanese delegation, Ambassador for Economic and International Trade Affairs Jun Yokota, said he appreciated new proposals by the Vietnamese side, but there remained several differences that require greater efforts from both sides.

The Vietnamese chief negotiator, former Deputy Trade Minister Phan The Rue expressed his wish that Japan and Vietnam will make new progress at this round so as to sign the economic partnership agreement as early as possible. He hoped that Japan will soon finish the approval process for Vietnam’s new offers. (VNA)
