ALBA Member Nations to Create Common Currency

Caracas (RHC).- Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas, ALBA, announced on Wednesday it will create a common currency.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said "we are not going to wait for the International Monetary Fund and World Bank to give us solutions to the problems and especially on the financial, food and environmental problems that threatens the world".

After welcoming the Heads of States and high ranking representatives to the 3rd Extraordinary ALBA Summit, Chavez said that the group is on its way towards mechanism of commercial exchange and concentrate on a common currency.

"We, the South, also exist and we will make decisions", reiterated the Venezuelan President who congratulated his counterparts from Bolivia, Evo Morales, Nicaragua Daniel Ortega and Ecuador Rafael Correa for the recent successes in their nations.

"Rafael Correa is an special guest, exceptional observer, said Chavez as the current ALBA members, created in 2004 marked a special emphasis in the social aspects and whose current members are Venezuela, Nicaragua, Bolivia, Honduras, Cuba and Dominica.

Honduras is represented by its President Manuel Zelaya, Cuba’s Vice President of the Council of Ministers Ricardo Cabrisas and Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit.
