Peru wishes to close the negotiations for the FTA with EU towards January 2010, according to the Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister, Martín Pérez.

"I think negotiations with the European Union will be completed by the end of January, 2010, so we can say this agreement will be reached by that time," pointed out the Peruvian minister, who added that only two or three issues are still yet to solve by both part’s ministers.

“Sometimes the presence of Presidents is required, but this is not the case,” said Perez to a local news radio.

He also said that Peru will seek to achieve progress in these negotiations during the visit of EU Trade Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner to Peru on Jan. 18.
