Peru-EU FTA legal review to conclude on Friday

Lima, Feb. 02 (ANDINA). Peru’s Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) reported Wednesday that Peru and European Union (EU) teams will complete the legal review process of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) on Friday.

“We will complete the FTA legal review this week, that is we will have the revised document ready to begin the approval process and to be incorporated into the legislation of both parties,” Deputy Foreign Trade Minister Carlos Posada said.

Mincetur will wait until all the sectors involved issue their favorable reports in order to create a package that will be submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Posada added.

He recalled that the Chancellery is in charge of determining whether the FTA should be ratified by the Congress or the Executive.

In addition, the EU will begin the translation of the text into all 21 EU official languages and then determine whether the agreement is “mixed” or not.
