Protests in Bulgaria’s capital and Varna against TTIP agreement between EU and U.S.A. (ROUNDUP)

Civil protests were staged in coastal Varna themed “No to TTIP and CETA,” organisers of the event announced.

“Almost 1 billion people on both sides of the Atlantic will find themselves in the straitjacket of the neoliberal policies, if the agreement on Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) between the European Union and the Unites States is concluded, the organizers say. EU-Canada Comprehensive Trade and Economic Agreement (CETA) is being finalized and is awaiting approval. It contains exactly the same startling moments like TTIP.

The agreement provides for unification of tariff barriers, which will actually lower sanitary and nutritional standards in trade and Europe will be forced to cancel the existing ban on imports of meats and foods processed with chemicals”, the message of the organisers reads.

Around 80 people have joined the protest against the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership agreement between the European Union and the Unites States and EU-Canada Comprehensive Trade and Economic Agreement.

Demonstrators gathered in front of the building of the European Commission representation in Sofia.

They chanted slogans: “Mafia” and “No CETA”. They carried out cardboard stop signs reading STOP CETA and STOP TTIP.

One of the organisers of the protest in the capital, Lidiya Kostova specified that the date for the protest was not accidental.

“July 4 is the Independency Day of the United Sates and a symbol of freedom, independence and values. Les us remain the meaning of these words. We will not allow these agreements to break the basic values in Europe,” she remarked.
