Sri Lanka to enter into free trade agreement with Egypt

Nov 01, Colombo: Sri Lanka will enter into a free trade agreement with Egypt in January next year.

A spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry said Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Dr. Ezzat Saad El Sayed, who was in Colombo, has finalized the pact.

The new trade pact it will improve commodity exchange to 50 million US dollars. Sri Lanka hopes to recommission its tea exports to Egypt through the agreement. In the past, the island supplied 80 percent of Egypt’s tea requirement.
