Bangladesh seeks Belarus’s support to sign FTA with EEC

Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen has sought Belarus’s support for signing a free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).

He urged Belarusian businessmen and entrepreneurs to invest in special economic zones and high-tech parks in Bangladesh.

The issues came up at the fifth round of foreign office consultations between Bangladesh and Belarus at State Guest House Padma on Sunday.

Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen and Evgeny Shestakov, deputy minister of foreign affairs of the Republic of Belarus, led their respective sides in the consultations.

The foreign secretary thanked the Belarusian people, as a part of the erstwhile USSR, for their support during Bangladesh’s War of Liberation in 1971.

The delegations expressed satisfaction with the current state of bilateral relations between the two countries and expressed hope that in the coming days the ties will be further strengthened and deepened.

The Belarusian delegation expressed its interest in importing manpower from Bangladesh and providing opportunities for more Bangladeshi students to pursue higher education in Belarus.

Both sides stressed completing the necessary procedures for signing pending bilateral instruments, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

All important aspects of bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Belarus, including agricultural, educational and military cooperation as well as cooperation in science and technology and legal issues, were discussed during the consultations.
