Katherine Tai to visit Kenya for US – EAC trade talks

The United States Trade Representative, Katherine Tai, is set to travel to Nairobi from July 17 – 19.

She will co-lead a meeting of the U.S. – East African Community (EAC) Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA Council).

“This meeting marks the fifteen-year anniversary of the U.S. – EAC TIFA, and comes as the Biden-Harris Administration intensifies engagement both bilaterally with Kenya and throughout the continent,” read a press release.

Ambassador Tai will meet President Ruto, Cabinet Secretary for trade Moses Kuria, Cabinet Secretary for EAC and Arid and Semi-Arid Lands Rebecca Miano as well as US. Ambassador to Kenya meg Whitman.

Talks on the increased cooperation with the United States and promotion of inclusive trade and economic prosperity between the two countries is also a part of the agenda.

Last time Tai was in Kenya was when she led a delegation to President Ruto’s inauguration in September 2022.
