N.Korea Calls for Struggle Against FTA

North Korea has urged South Koreans to fight against Seoul’s free trade agreement with the U.S., condemning it as a “yoke of subordination.” The official Rodong Shinmun said on March 9 the U.S. is “forcing” South Korea to give in to its demands in trade negotiations. Calling the negotiations “unequal and unfair”, the newspaper urged South Koreans to step up their struggle against the “treacherous” trade pact.

The Rodong Shinmun accused the U.S. of inflicting “incalculable pain” on South Koreans with its 60-year “military occupation” and “wreaking havoc” on its economy. With the FTA, it argues, the U.S. is attempting to strengthen its domination of the South.
