Sri Lanka to review FTA talks with China, India, Thailand

The Government is to review the progress in Free Trade Agreement (FTA) talks with China, India and Thailand.

Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera told Parliament today that Sri Lanka will learn from the success of the FTA signed with Singapore.

The Minister said the Government is committed to a strategy of a network of trade agreements.

Presenting the budget for 2019, the Finance Minister said that foreign exports are crucial for the local economy.

He said that funds will be allocated to assist the export market and the national export strategy.

Sri Lanka and India have been discussing an Economic and Technology Cooperative Agreement (ETCA) while China and Sri Lanka have had talks on a Free Trade Agreement.

Last year Sri Lanka signed its very first comprehensive FTA with Singapore.
