    Bush sends Oman trade pact to Congress for vote

    I spent nearly seven years in Muscat, Oman, as a UNIDO consultant and traveled extensively throughout the country : never did I witness or hear about slave or forced labor making merchandise for export. On the contrary, I heard many times the opinion that people from the Indian subcontinent who worked in the garment industry in Oman increased their productivity many times over that they achieved in their homes countries because they were paid, housed and fed much better in Oman. Whoever makes the kind of comments the US Democrats have made should better visit Oman and then give an opinion....or shut up.

    ropuesta para TLC

    Pienso que para que exista libre comercio ambas partes tienen que resultar igualmente beneficiadas no solo una parte, cuando los EEUU firman un TLC, no lo hacen para peder ni para comprar mas de lo que venden, están tratando de conseguir nuevos mercados que ofreciendo un poco de ayuda (en sus ayudas también incluyen las remesas de los familiares que se esclavizan para mandar a su familias) a los países pobres.

    Los TLC deben venir cargados de una dosis de respeto y otra de corazón, algo que no es muy conocido en los negocios.
    Invito a visitar Baja California para que vean la cantidad de fabricas que se han instalado ofreciendo empleo para México. Un empleo muy mal pagado, que no tiene respeto con los acuerdos internacionales del trabajo.

    Free trade, but not fair trade

    I feel that Thailand should be able to secure more benefical FTA’s and negotiators should put a greater empahsis on gaining these. However i believe the problem to lie with surrounding countries such as China, Australia, New Zealand and India who aim to gain from the dilema facing Thailand through making as such much profit as they can through trade. These countries should not be exploiting Thailand, this is a problem occuring all over the world in South America and Africa and richer nations should be providing support.

    Cosatu warns of job losses on SA-China trade deal

    Hi - I write in my personal capacity.
    I truly hate the sight of China City etc. The products are not just mass produced the wholesalers are rude, filthy, and completely indifferent. they do not do a thing to enhance the south africans. They appear arrogant and indignant. I simply hate having to buy any of their products. I would rather buy and inferior south african product than buy the junk they flood our market with.

    All local Vanaspati factories shut down after India tightens imports

    these factories set up by indian businessmen has been looting srilankan economy as well as effecting indian economy. the benefits of fta given by indian government to and for local srilankan population is looted by such shortsighted petty businessman. these factories should be subject to 80% local tax so that money given by indian government can come to our Government Excequer for welfare of srilankan public

    Perú : Paro nacional contra el TLC

    La afirmacion de que el paro del 24 fue un exito es FALSA. El exito no puede ser declarado solo por el interesado. Lo concreto es que la mayoria de los que suscriben el documento adjunto solo tiene la representacion de su dirigencia y el gran parte ellos desconocen el contenido del TLC y sus alcances.
    Las criticas son solo etiquetas politicas de figuracion. Ahora que las elecciones ya pasaron seguramente que la oposicion volvera a su ya conocida carga de obstruir el normal desemvolvimiento del pais, su economia y su progreso afectando asi por supuesto a los que menos tienen.

    Los costos humanos del TLC

    People have the tendency of buying products such as shirts which have tademarks on them. They don’t care if those products are copies of the original ones. People wouldn’t buy, for sure, the same number of those products if they’re missing the trademarks on them. Besides, these kinds of pirated products are much cheaper. Therefore, that is a heavy reason for the customers of these regions at the moment of purchasing. Bills that don’t allow people to do these economic activities will mean a great income loss for them.

    Compañeros :

    Nuestra situación económica de subsistencia es una muestra real del atraso y pobreza en la que nos encontramos, debido a las políticas económicas estructuradas por una clase dominante e implementada por los gobiernos de turno (Belaúnde, Alán García, Fujimori, Toledo, etc.), que se someten a esta clase, que a sido incapaz históricamente de generar un proyecto nacional de desarrollo.

    Dentro de este contexto la lucha se orienta al rechazo firme y contundente al TRATADO DE LIBRE COMERCIO (TLC), por que es un instrumento que normativiza la legalización de la dominación imperialista :

    Ø Como área de influencia para controlar el país, como su mercado.

    Ø Como área de influencia política y militar utilizando a los gobiernos títeres y lacayos para este fin.

    Ø Como fuente de abastecimiento de materias primas (minerales, combustible, biodiversidad, etc.), para sus industrias monopólicas.

    El pueblo es testigo del engaño y la patraña, de quienes administran la justicia y la falsa democracia dentro del sistema capitalista, acto que el pueblo rechaza a la puesta en libertad condicional, al asesino y corrupto de fujimori, esta es una muestra más de la putrefacta y esclerótica de los tribunales de justicia y la forma de administración del Estado burgués que actúa de cómplice con los gobernantes de turno, así fue con el genocida y ladrón Alan García y se pretende hacer lo mismo con fujimori y Toledo.

    En efecto, el pueblo con las experiencias vividas, no podemos caer nuevamente en la farsa y manipulación de los politiqueros, que hoy se presentan en la coyuntura electoral ofreciendo como siempre una lista interminable de propuestas sin sustento, que al final no podrán cumplir.

    Hoy el pueblo será testigo, una vez más del circo electoral como el acto del seudo debate electoral.

    Es así que Históricamente el pueblo (campesinos y trabajadores) siguen marginados del bienestar y desarrollo, del cual si gozan la clase dominante, donde las propuestas electoreras están en esencia muy alejadas de los verdaderos intereses de la masa popular.

    Esta movilización de protesta, debe ser la apertura hacia un proceso de unificación de las fuerzas progresistas y revolucionarias, para construir la alternativa del poder obrero-campesino popular, en la perspectiva del socialismo que desarrolle la verdadera economía del país (industrial y agropecuaria con los adelantos de la ciencia y la tecnología).

    ¡VIVA LA LUCHA DEL CAMPESINADO PERUANO !

    ¡BASTA DE PROMESAS Y ENGAÑOS AL CAMPESINADO PERUANO !

    ¡NO AL TLC DE CARÁCTER IMPERIALISTA !

    US-Ecuador free trade agreement frozen

    The US is the biggest export and import partner of Ecuador. Ecuador exports almost 50% and imports around 20% of commodities to and from the US. For this matter, we should say that it’s in Ecuador’s best interests to remain as a US trade partner. At this point, the US-Ecuador FTA is taking a break. A free trade agreement that will benefit both nations in a win-win situation. An agreement which has been negotiated nearly two years with positive perspectives. An agreement that can lead Ecuador out of poverty lines which has been suffering for decades. An agreement that is currently frozen because US interests are not relying in helping thousands of American businesses by expanding to a new market, but relying in the same few families monitoring the White House. The same interests they’ve had since they visited Ecuador in 1968, where the most precious biodiversities in the world became an obstacle to US refineries. So for this matter the agreement is taking a break ; for the only reason that Ecuador finally stood on its feet.

    India loses out in Thai FTA

    I fully agree with Mr. Krishnan that India has infact lost in both the FTAs which it has signed till now and the astounding figures on the increase in imports and decrease in exports prove it all.

    But I would also like to comment that although these figures are right but it would be very myopic to criticize the Indian government’s foreign policies based on it. One can’t ignore the long term gains which a developing country like India will have from these bilateral agreements (read bilateral agreements with Asian countries).

    As referred by our Finance minister as ’gains in long term’, India certainly cannot afford to loose the bus on the proposed PAN-Asian Economic Community which has important agendas like having a common currency for Asian region. And so India cannot afford to be away from the Asian countries on bilateral/multilateral trade agreements platform.

    But certainly India would have to involve more of grey matter before finalising future FTAs (like the India-Asean & India MERCOSUR F.T.A.) in order to protect India’s long term gains without compromising much on the short term ones.
