Morocco, Gabon examine relaunch of FTA negotiations
25 December 2004
Morocco and Gabon might relaunch negotiations to establish a free trade zone with view to reinforcing trade exchanges and promoting economic integration with countries of central Africa.
This project was the focus of a meeting held recently between Moroccan Foreign Trade Minister, Mustapha Mechahouri, and Gabon’s ambassador in Rabat, Banga Eboum Fran ois, who agreed to hold next January 20 in Libreville a meeting at the level of experts on the Free Trade Agreement.
According to the Foreign Trade Ministry, the two sides also discussed bilateral economic relations.
The volume of Morocco-Gabon trade exchanges was estimated at 356 million Dhs (around US $ 39.5 million) in 2004, including 94 million Dhs (around US $10.4 million) of Moroccan exports to the Gabonese market.
